The
return of Mat Mladin?
I
was a spectator at a recent round of the American Superbike Championship in CA.
How times change so quickly. Exactly
2 years ago, the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG) took control of Road Racing and
instantly proceeded to destroy a good series. Without going into to much political
stuff, the head of the party, Roger Edmonson slowly ran off all the manufacturers,
pissed off all the riders and decided whilst he was at it, he would piss off most
of the track owners also. To wrap it up so I can move on, you couldn't do a worse
job of running anything, than he did of AMA racing. A complete and total catastrophe. Two
years on and 6 months after my pulling the pin from the debacle called the AMA
Superbike series, I returned to the track as there has been some talk between
myself and a few people about a possible return to racing in 2011. I was told
that things are completely different to last year and reports from Pete Doyle
(my long time crew chief) after the first race in Daytona were that there is a
definite shift in the approach to everything and everyone. I needed to see for
myself so off I went to California for round 2. After
DMG heard that I would be in town for the race, they contacted me and organized
everything from passes to suites etc etc. From the onset I thought that I was
being set up :-) as this was far to different to how it had been for the last
two years. Bob Hannah met me at the race to hang out for the weekend before we
flew back to his place for some fun flying for a few days. I
got to meet and talk with all the new guys in charge, and after the weekend was
over I had a good feeling that the series could move forward. It was a sense of
relief in a way, because it was where I decided to spend the best years (14) of
my racing life and to see the series implode like it did was a bit hard to take.
I raced, beat and got beaten by guys like Ben Spies and Nicky Hayden over the
course of the last 8 years, both of them guys now World Champions. The series
has produced some great racers for many years so to see what was happening sucked. Whether
I return to racing in the USA or not, I will always hope that it flourishes. The
USA is a great place and the US motorcycle market is huge and they should have
a top class racing series that produces great racers, not a series that forces
the best talent to leave to early. The US motocross guys stay and race in their
own country because the money is good and the racing is the best anywhere. The
US road racing series has proven how tough it is to be a winner, I hope it continues
to do so. Cheers Mat

AND BGW ANNOUNCES EXHAUSTS AND ACCESSORIES FOR THE 2010 BMW S1000RR - by Geoffrey
Bonfield The
new BMW S1000RR has certainly put a cat among the pigeons in the Litre-Class Sportbike
category. BMW
has always enjoyed a reputation for making great bikes, but unlike their automotive
division have never been known for outright high performance. Well
now BMW have entered this ultra-competitive class with a bang, with class leading
power, a strong chassis and a high tech electronics package.
Yoshimura
is the leader in getting even more performance out of the best bikes and the S1000RR
is no exception. Yoshimura
have had a look at what they can do for the new kid on the block, and have released
a range of exhausts and accessories specifically for the Beemer. These
are due early June but get your order in quick as demand is very high for these
Yoshimura items.
BMW

improved styling, and that distinctive Yoshimura sound the R55 is the obvious
choice for any performance bike, and it especially compliments the lines of the
BMW S1000RR. Included
is a Yoshimura Titanium R55-LE with a carbon fiber end cap, carbon fiber heat
shield, detailed installation directions, and all necessary hardware.

today. The dramatic styling of the R77-LE and the predicated power it produces
adhere flawlessly with the style of the BMW S1000RR. Included
