 DRIVEN
POWER UP KITS There
are many ways to improve power and responsivness on late model sportbikes these
days. There are exhausts, camshafts, EFI controllers. Most of these do involve
a fair degree of setting up and in some cases major modifications to the bike.
One of the simplest and
often overlooked ways to get more is to change the final gear ratios through new
sprockest and chain combination. On late model bikes the standard sprockets and
chain are made for durability and cost, but are often heavy and low grade. The
standard gearing too is often not suitable, often sacrificing low-mid range power
for freeway speeds and better fuel economy. This is where DRIVEN come in with
their simple yet effective "Power Up Kit" Driven
USA's Power Up kits combine optimal gearing gearing choices with a Gold 520 chain.
For the track or street, these kits offer excellent performance gains at an exceptional
price. Driven Power Up kits are a complete package with front sprocket, Gold alloy
rear sprocket and a Gold 520 pitch chain. The
Driven Power Up Kits are designed to be lighter than OEM (hence the 520 conversion)
and one tooth down on the front. These two combinations are designed to be a nice
easy power up without dramatically altering the bikes power curve/speedo. There
will be a slight trade-off in chain longevity whenever you go down a grade of
chain, but the life difference of the 520 chain v 525/530 chain will be fairly
small. Normal maintainence is still required, good cleaning and lubrication of
the chain on a regular basis. Chain technology has come a long way and the 520
pitch chain supplied with the DRIVEN kits are a very good strong quality X-Ring
chain. The major
advantage of the 520 pitch chain and alloy rear sprocket is less weight. The weight
you save on drive components is multiplied as rotating mass. So less rotating
weight improves acceleration. Combined with the 1 tooth smaller front sprocket
(which is equal to going up 3 on the rear) you will have much better take off,
punch out of corners and it will put you more in the power range on the freeway. So
quick summary, you will get a little less life from the kit, but the trade-off
in added power is worth it!!
